OUR PENNILESS WRITE

Contributors   About

We aim to foster experimentation in writing. We believe traditional structures of writing can be restrictive and we encourage those who do not adhere to the tried, tested and, therefore, validated conventions of literature and art writing. We want to experience new writing without relying on our preconceptions and expectations of established genres. There are no deadlines for submissions. The only criteria is that submissions be under 3,000 words (or up to 10 images for visual essays). Submissions can be sent to ourpennilesswrite@gmail.com

    "the right time"
    By Kim Simpson

    it’s only been 15 seconds
i tried to make it more
but i couldn’t hold onto it any longer
    the timing was all wrong
it should have been less dramatic
    but it wasn’t

it’s only been there 15 minutes
it should not have taken as long
    as that
now i don’t even have time for a song
    not even an album

    it’s been 15 hours
    since i started
    it was a big undertaking
    it went on and on
but then before i knew it
    it was done
    since now here i am
    eating my dinner
    task complete
    in plenty of time

    it’s taken me 15 days
    to read these
    and check those
    and view that over there
    i should have started earlier
it would have taken less time
well, the same amount of time but
    i would have finished sooner
and had time to walk around the garden

it’s only taken me 15 years
    nothing at all really
    the time just slips by
    without even making a sound
    i didn’t even notice
now if i am really organised
i might have time for a cup of tea
